David Saul

With over two decades of experience as an SMSF Auditor, Advisor and Administrator, David is committed to delivering best practice in the provision of SMSF audit services. David has earned a reputation in the marketplace as a trusted, independent SMSF auditor.


As a Chartered Accountant, David leads a specialist SMSF audit team – independently servicing accounting and administration practices right across Australia. This work elicits unique insights into industry matters and shifts in client sentiments and needs. Indeed, David is a regular commentator on SMSF issues in industry publications and the Australian Financial Review. He is a Fellow and long-standing member of the SMSF Association (SA), the peak body for SMSF professionals, where he was one of the early achievers of the SMSF Specialist Advisor™ accreditation. 

 

Prior to establishing SaulSMSF, David held roles with leading accounting firms Bongiorno & Partners (NSW), Bentleys MRI (Sydney) and HLB Mann Judd (Sydney).

Ekaterina Steko (nee Taranets)

Ekaterina (Katrina) has joined Saul SMSF in 2021 from Evolv Super where she has worked for seven years as a Senior Audit Manager and as the Head of the Onboarding process for new clients. 

 

Overall, Katrina has over 13 years of experience in auditing SMSFs in similar roles in other public practices and is an approved SMSF auditor registered with ASIC. 

 

Katrina has also worked as part of the CA ANZ Leadership and Advocacy team, focusing primarily on the provision of both financial advisory services and superannuation support to members of the Institute. 

 

Katrina's responsibilities at Saul SMSF as part of the leadership team include conducting and reviewing audits and liaising with the clients regarding audit queries as well as overseeing all stages of the audit including automation of the audit processes.  In addition, Katrina helps with the business development and onboarding new clients. Her extensive SMSF audit experience coupled with her strong ethics and professionalism ensures the audits are conducted at the highest audit quality level to the clients’ satisfaction. 

 

Katrina holds a master’s degree in professional accounting and applied finance and a bachelor’s degree in World Economics. She is also CPA qualified. 

 

Katrina also succeeded to the finals of both the "Auditor of the Year” and “Superannuation Auditor of the Year" (2019 Australian Accounting Awards), and the "Auditor of the Year" (2019 Women in Finance Awards).    

 

Katrina’s personal passions are her family, scuba diving, travelling, and painting. 

Brendan Frawley

Senior Audit Manager

Brendan joined Saul SMSF in September 2022 as a Senior Audit Manager. Brendan has over 15 years’ experience in the superannuation sector, specialising in SMSF with regards to audit, accounting, and compliance. Brendan has worked with Australia’s leading SMSF administrators and accounting firms.


With his extensive knowledge of superannuation law and audit standards, which allows him to take a pragmatic approach to solving complex compliance matters for clients. He thrives on building client relationships and nurturing relationships with accounting professionals to ensure an excellent service is provided to their clients.

Brendan holds a BA (Political Science and History) from the University of Western Sydney, a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting from Macquarie University, and is a Member of CPA Australia and a registered ASIC SMSF Auditor.

 

On a personal level, Brendan is happily married and a father of two very active young boys. On the weekends he likes to spend time improving his fitness either with his personal trainer or riding his mountain bike on adventures or working on his golf game. He is a dedicated fan of the mighty Canterbury Bulldogs who enjoys going to cheer them on.

Anju Gupta

Assistant Manager

With a postgraduate degree in Commerce and Professional Accounting, as well as a Bachelor of Education, Anju brings a unique blend of expertise to her work. As an approved SMSF Auditor registered with ASIC and a valued member of the Saul team since 2012, she has gained extensive experience in accounting and Self-Managed Superannuation Funds (SMSF).

Anju's passion for continuous learning and her enthusiasm for embracing new technology keeps her at the forefront of her field. She constantly explores the latest advancements and seamlessly incorporates them into her work, resulting in more efficient and effective solutions. Coming from a business family, the values and principles instilled in her from a young age have shaped her drive and determination to make a meaningful impact in the professional landscape.

Within the dynamic team at Saul SMSF, Anju has a range of responsibilities. She conducts and reviews audits, overseeing all stages of the audit process. Her focus on incorporating automation into audit procedures has been instrumental in streamlining processes, enhancing efficiency, and improving accuracy.

Beyond her professional pursuits, Anju enjoys spending quality time with her family. She also actively contributes to the community by helping students excel in mathematics, driven by her commitment to education and making a positive impact.

Alexander Davies

Intermediate Auditor

Alex joined Saul SMSF in August 2021 as a graduate auditor. As an intermediate auditor, his responsibilities include conducting audits in preparation for final review by the Senior team and liaising with our client regarding audit queries.

Alex holds a bachelor’s degree in Commerce with a major in Accounting from Macquarie University. Alex is currently studying for his Graduate Diploma of Chartered Accounting through CA ANZ and is a provisional member of the Association.

In Alex’s spare time, he is an enthusiastic tennis and basketball player and loves to travel and spend time with his family.

Peggy Leung

Intermediate Auditor

Peggy joined Saul SMSF in March 2023 as an SMSF Audit Intermediate. Prior to this, Peggy worked in the Business Services sector within various public practices as a Tax Accountant.

After working in various roles in tax and accounting working in SMSF administrator roles for over 10 years, Peggy found a passion for SMSF and auditing. She loves the investigative side of auditing and working with the team to identify potential issues and how they can be remediated.

Peggy has a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from Macquarie University and is also a member of both CAANZ & CPA Australia.

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with Mother Nature and listening to music, particularly classical music and plays the piano in her spare time.

Kalutara Fonseka (Rowan)

Auditor

Kalutara joined Saul SMSF in August 2022 as a Graduate Auditor. 

Kalutara is a natural learner and loves diving into the audit process. Kalutara is a great team player who is determined to grow into the role of Senior Auditor.

Kalutara has a Bachelor of Business, major in Accounting and minor in Hospitality management from the University of Edith Cowan.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family and cooking.

Yukie Tanner

Workflow Manager & Audit Support Coordinator

Yukie joined Saul SMSF back in 2008, the first member of the team, and in 2011 she left to return to the UK for family reasons. We were pleased to welcome her back to the team in 2020.

She holds an Advanced Diploma in Accounting and has more than 6 years of experience in SMSF audit support.

Her responsibilities at Saul SMSF are workflow allocation, reviewing audit files, and liaising with the clients regarding audit queries, including addressing questions and concerns and gathering necessary information or documents to facilitate the audit process.

She is a highly detail-oriented individual who demonstrates exceptional time management and organisational abilities. She is adept at prioritising tasks, creating efficient workflows, and allocating appropriate resources to meet deadlines.

Outside of her professional life, she is married and a mother of two grown-up boys has a deep passion for fitness.  Another aspect of her life that brings her joy is her love for food and drinks. She thoroughly enjoys exploring different cuisines, trying new restaurants, and sharing delightful dining experiences with the family and friends

Shubham Gupta

Audit Support

Shubham joined Saul SMSF in July 2022 as an Audit Support team member. Currently, he is pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce/Computer Science degree at UNSW, with a major in Finance for the commerce component. With the combination of Computer Science, he is developing proficiency in programming languages such as JavaScript, C++, C, SQL, and Python.

Shubham provides valuable audit support to auditors, assisting them with various tasks and ensuring the smooth operation of the auditing process.

Outside of work and academics, Shubham is passionate about sports. Actively participating in competitive cricket and soccer, which has nurtured his love for sports. Additionally, he has recently developed a keen interest in fitness and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
